The terrain of the Volkswagen Race Touareg is the desert. But before the four-wheel racer on 1. of January 2011 in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires for the Dakar Rally starts, he had a final shake-down in a Saxony-Anhalt’s snow. On display are only a couple of dirty-white hills, through the air but roars a mighty roar. Out of a snow cloud darts the blue silhouette of a car that is not usually found near Magdeburg. Here, the motor sport division of VW is testing for the last time the new Race Touareg 3. Built for estimated 1.5 million € each in Hannover by hand, used the four Race Touareg almost all special technique that is made for the race: from the 50-pound carbon-fiber body and the compressor to vary the tire pressure to custom pilot’s seat and the custom-made racing rally chassis.
2,5-Liter-Inline 5 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine, good tucked away enable the race Touareg to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 sec.
